European Search Award 2025

How?
Follo (formerly OrangeValley) developed a data-driven strategy to identify, prioritise and activate opportunities at scale. We analysed filter combinations based on search volume, product availability, SERP competition and revenue potential.
Only the most promising combinations were rolled out as Filtered Listing Pages (FLPs). These pages were enriched with automatically generated metadata, content and product links. Local SEO teams in each country had the autonomy to select and activate FLPs — fully supported with dashboards and documentation.
Relevance for the active searcher
Target audience and search intent

The approach focused on consumers actively searching for sports and outdoor gear without a specific brand preference. This audience is in the decision phase and looks for products based on attributes like brand, size, color or functionality.
By making these mid-tail search intents visible in the search results, we connected relevant content to highly targeted queries — precisely where Decathlon previously remained invisible.
From search data to concrete decisions
Strategy and analysis

A thorough analysis revealed that Decathlon wasn’t covering 90% of relevant FLP-related keywords with indexable pages. We mapped out millions of potential filter and keyword combinations. Next, we developed a prioritisation model to predict which combinations offered the most value.
This included factors like the number of products per combination, expected SERP competition, and estimated revenue contribution. Only the combinations with the highest strategic value were launched.
Efficiently turning filters into findable pages
Automation and scalable execution

We developed a custom tool that automatically collected all possible filter combinations from existing category pages. A single page could include over 300 filters. By combining brand, gender, color and size, thousands of unique variants were generated per page — and millions across the domain. To process large volumes of data without overloading the website, we used an asynchronous scraper and batch processing.
The tool automatically generates SEO data and exports it in JSON format, enabling local teams to prepare go-live in their own environments — with minimal manual effort.
“This was a masterful execution of PFP automation, paired with a smart mid-tail keyword strategy and seamless large-scale page generation across multiple markets. The combination of advanced keyword analysis, deep SERP insights, and ROI-focused SEO made this campaign a true masterclass in both strategy and execution.”

Local execution, central control
International collaboration

We support local teams in 14 countries with clear dashboards, analysis tools and monthly updates. Each team could select its own FLP set based on local search behaviour. This approach combines central oversight with local relevance — enabling Decathlon to scale quickly while maintaining quality and consistency across borders.
“An inspiring project that perfectly blends automation with a tailored approach for each market while maintaining a unified global strategy. What truly sets this apart is its combination of technical innovation, scalability, and measurable business impact. This case study serves as an excellent blueprint for driving growth at scale, with no negative impact, directly aligning strategy with key commercial goals.”
