Google has published a new article outlining restrictions for user-generated content (UGC) for Google Posts. These rules are set to provide useful and reliable information on Google Maps. If the content is deemed unhelpful or harmful, Google may decide to apply these restrictions to your account. The restrictions are divided into several different sections.
Type of Policy Restrictions
- Short-term Restrictions
The placement of a post may be disabled for a period of time. For example, during an event to prevent a spike in irrelevant or offensive content. When the risk of such responses is reduced, the restriction is lifted.
- Long-term Restrictions
The placement of posts may be disabled for a longer period when there are continuous posts with little value or irrelevant content.
The characteristics of places for which UGC may be restricted:
- The place cannot be visited or is limited in accessibility
- The place consistently attracts off-topic content
- Partial or Complete Restrictions
If the policy is violated in a pattern or with a large volume, the restrictions for posts may apply to some or all user-generated content. This includes text reviews, ratings, images, and videos.
Google has previously announced the possibility of disabling the ability to receive new reviews or images for businesses. With this article, Google aims to create more understanding and be transparent to businesses and marketers about why they sometimes make this decision. Always keep in mind that in practice, the policy may be applied differently than Google writes.
